Victorian Christmas Festival
Step back in time with the ancient market town of Garstang's Victorian Christmas Festival. This popular event is held on the Monday and Tuesday evenings, about ten days before Christmas from 6pm onwards. (Check the Victorian Festival website for exact dates.) The main High Street is closed to traffic and is filled with thousands of people roaming freely to grab last minute presents and enjoy the atmosphere of the true ‘spirit of Christmas’.
The festivities start off with the Parade; Father Christmas being led by a band and entertainers down the High Street to his grotto! There is so much going on - many street entertainers, stilt-walkers, jugglers, Garstang’s own town crier, Punch and Judy, choirs, morris dancers and a brass band to mention but a few.
It is a great opportunity for late night shopping with many businesses giving hospitality throughout the evenings. Along with the interesting shops, a variety of stalls offer a tempting selection of goodies. Don’t forget the traditional Christmas fayre such as roast chestnuts and mulled wine to tantalise the taste buds!
The Garstang Victorian Christmas Festival is a community event co-ordinated by Garstang Chamber of Trade, organised by volunteers, and supported by all Garstang’s local organisations. It is a non-profit making event and, as such, relies on donations from the community to ensure its continuity.
