This
popular festival is held at Whitsuntide, the last Bank Holiday Weekend in
May. The highlight is the procession of decorative floats that travel
around the town with children in bright costumes supporting their gala
queen. For the children there are sports events and danving
competitions, and the adults can even join in the fancy dress competition.
The
Garstang Children’s Festival is one of the main events on the town’s
calendar and both children and adults alike look forward the day some weeks
beforehand. Each year the Festival carries on the tradition of the two
parades and the activities on the playing field, but each Festival is unique,
as none knows what tableaux to expect.
The lead up to Festival begins with the football and
netball competitions which are always hard won events. If you would
like to enjoy these events, please see the dates and times included in our booklet,
delivered to every home prior to the festival. The final of the football
competition is always the last event of the Festival and it is always an
exciting climax to the day.
A always there are plenty of activities on the Moss Lane playing field for
everyone to enjoy on the day. These events are aimed at families having a
fun time together and most of the activities are free or at a minimal cost.
So do come along and enjoy the Festival with us.
