Garstang Rugby Football Club, ‘The
Oaks’, was founded in the Royal Oak Hotel, on 19 June 1995 by a group of
local rugby enthusiasts and players wanting to put Garstang on the local
rugby map.
In the years since, the Club has gone
from strength to strength and now boasts two teams playing in leagues, a
Social XV and a Veterans XV.
The First XV play in North Lancs
Division One having won promotion in the 2006/07 season.
The Second XV, known as The Blues, play
in Miller Homes Four North having won division Five North in 2006/07.
The Third XV, known as The Lions, were
formed in 2007 as a result of an increase in playing numbers – at the
moment they only play social games but they eventually hope to enter the
league structure.
The Veterans XV, known as The Old
Viagrans, play one-off games against other teams of veteran status –
players must be over-35 to be eligible for the team.
The club also has an ever-growing
Junior Section which was formed in 2005. The section currently caters
for 7-11 year olds with a combination of Tag Rugby and Contact Rugby.
From July through to the end of
September training takes place at Hudson Park every Tuesday and Thursday
at 18:30. From September to April this transfers indoors to Myerscough
Equestrian Centre every Tuesday and Thursday at 18:30.
Home games are played at Hudson Park on
Saturdays kicking off at 15:00 at the beginning and end of the season
and 14:15 between November and February. Details of forthcoming matches
are published in the local press and advertised on the club signs by the
pitch.
